The meaning of the Sabbath is
to celebrate time rather than space.
Six days a week we live
under the tyranny of things of space;
on the Sabbath we try to become attuned
to holiness in time.
It is a day on which we are called upon
to share in what is eternal in time,
to turn from the results of creation
to the mystery of creation;
from the world of creation
to the creation of the world.
~Abraham Heschel
I didn't realise that this picture is similar to the previous post entry. At first I thought this is a peaceful sunset and not a picture of forest fire or such. I guess I've been undermining the power of colour.
ReplyDeleteah, jessica, you are quite observant! this is the same photo as the last one on my previous post but done in b&w. i noticed that much of the detail of the sun's outline was lost by the fiery colors, so i thought i would try capturing it in b&w. i love how it turned out. simple. elegant in its starkness.
ReplyDeletei think i sense a spiritual lesson that can be gleaned from this as well... how the externals can distract us/blind us to the simplicity of our faith... hmm. perhaps i may post on this... to be continued!! :)
